“Soul’s Code” aka “Tod Rahad Vinyarn” (2007) - Thai Ghost/ Suspense

Soul\'s Code PosterFirst up for review today is the recently released Thai Police Suspense/ Thriller, “Soul’s Code”….. Neko scored herself a bit of luck when this one was released in Thailand complete with the ever so important feature of English subtitling. With a promise of gritty forensic action ala “CSI” and the added goodness of creepy ghost story elements thrown in, how could I go wrong? Yep… and it gave me the perfect excuse to pick up some Thai pop CD’s I’d been eyeing too…. Yay!!

The quick Thai synopsis for it reads: “When a murdered body of a high school girl is found naked with a strange mark on her forehead, which is to prevent the vengeance of her spirit, Detective Khan from DSI (Department of Special Investigations) is assigned to investigate the case. The dead girl is brought to Dr. Nicha at CIFS in Bangkok to find more clues and identify the body. Meanwhile, C, a former teenager’s heartthrob is involved in this case when he begins to search for his lost ex-girlfriend. When the ghost is trying to connect to the living, Detective Khan starts to believe in something supernatural that leads him to the truth.”

Do vengeful ghosts and modern cops make for a good story mix? Well let’s all “Read On” and find out, shall we?

Another Day, Another Power Failure…..

Work was interrupted yesterday late in my shift by one of those crazy “Wrath of the Gods” kind of severe thundershowers that ended up knocking down a tree that smashed a power transformer to sparking bits right down the street from the restaurant. You know, the sort of damage you usually see in all those disaster movies right before the heroine gets swept away by some terrible raging torrent. Or blown away to Oz….

Your Favorite Catgirl was spared any of that, but we did have to close up early…. no power at all. I ended up stuck at work in the dark too for about an hour until the storm passed and the live wires and debris were cleared away. Half our town was without lights and there were bits of stuff down everywhere….. Mother Nature can real have some serious PMS at times…..

However, there is an upside…. I’m off work today while a brand spanking new pole and transformer get installed. Nice after the busy time I had last week. I had power at the apartment last evening, but no cable TV, so it actually forced me to watch a couple of movies….. the Korean Suspense film “Black House” and the Thai Ghost/ Cop movie “Soul’s Code”… and that means a review…maybe even two…today.

Who knows? I’m in a particularly goofy mood this morning……(Watch out!!)

“Hell’s Ground” aka “Zibakhana” (2007) - Pakistani Horror

Hell's Ground PosterToday’s review is for “Zibakhana” aka “Hell’s Ground” the new Pakistani horror fest now out on DVD from the good people who do all those great genre films, Mondo Macabro by way of TLA Releasing under their “Danger After Dark” Label….. Directed by Omar Ali Khan, who’s filmsite, thehotspotonline, is an old favorite of Neko’s for it’s great reviews of practically unknown Bollywood/ Lollywood horror films, this one is just sooooo downright strange and Your Favorite Catgirl Princess couldn’t wait to get her lil’ paws on a copy!

Yes…yes… this lil’ Catgirl knows that the Pakistani and Indians are a bit touchy when forced to live near each other…. But here at “Neko’s Litterbox” it’s all one big happy Movie lovin’ world, so I filed this one under the same Category as I do Hindi films. It’s my opinion as an outsider that they share more in common than even they see…anyway “Can’t we all just get along?” Hehehehe!!

But all that stuff aside….Let’s take a peek and see if it’s a winner or not… “Read On” dear people!!

Workplace Blues…The Sequel!!

Dissapointed kittyIt’s Friday here at the Litterbox, and I’m up again early on what I thought was going to be a day off, but Nope….. no day off for this weary lil’ kitten. More difficulties at the restaurant I’m afraid.

The other cook in our kitchen, the one who was having all the problems with bouts of mourning sickness, had a miscarriage last Friday, and as a result hasn’t been able to work this week…. couple that with other people needing personal time to travel away for family business, and it seems we’re short again to cover today’s shift.

Sigh…….. Anyway, it means I’ll be a wee bit busier this weekend than I figured, but I’m still going to try to get a review or two done in my spare time. First up will be the Pakistani Zombie Splatterfest, “Hells Ground” aka “Zibakhana” that I did manage to watch yesterday evening. If there are any helpful spirits that owe a lil’ Catgirl a favor, I’ll have it up this afternoon…..

Till then, “Meow, meow for now!!”

“Hard Revenge Milly” & “The Masked Girl” - Japanese Exploitation Double Bill

Hard Revenge Milly PosterSo what is better than one Japanese Exploitation Flick featuring tough chicks, martial arts, gunplay, and aliens? How about TWO Japanese Exploitation Flicks done as a crazy “Grindhouse” style double bill?

Thanks to the people over at 24framespersecond, this one has just snuck into Neko’s sights, and is supposed to open this August in Japan.

Naturally your Favorite Catgirl Princess knows you want to know more….maybe see a Trailer, so you are gonna definitely want to “Read On”…….

So….Many….Movies!!

AccomplishedHehehehe!!! Got a knock on the apartment door today while working on some stuff at the computer, seems my Mailman had to troop all the way up to my apartment to deliver the packages today. Thank goodness one required a signature…. otherwise I’d have gotten that impersonal little notice telling me I had to go to the Post Office to get them. That’s normally a daily routine for me as I’m always missing the delivery while I’m at work.

I had quite the pile arrive today. Malaysia dropped “Duyung” and “Shy Spirit” in my lap… India gives me the craptastic looking “Bhoot Haveli”. Indonesia made a delivery with “Hantu Jembatan Ancol” and “Miracles” as well as a couple of Music CD’s. I also lucked out and got all my current domestic releases today too!! “10,00 BC”, “Hell’s Ground”, and “The Invaders” TV series collection all turned up. Add to that some Russian Music CD’s from Amazon and I’m pretty well all packaged out……

I don’t think the mailman was all that amused about always having giant loads of deliveries for me…. I didn’t have the heart to tell him I’ve probably got another due in tomorrow from Thailand and a second one from Indonesia coming. I just gave him my best “winsome, shy, big eyed look”, let my english lapse a weeeee bit, and charmed him into leaving any future piles of stuff with my apartment manager. Sometimes being petite, asian and reasonably cute can come in handy…… (I’m such a naughty, lil’ tease at times…..)Naughty!

The upside of this avalanche of stuff is that I’ll definitely have my choice of stuff to watch and new reviews can be expected in the next couple of days…. Yay!!

…..Now my only problem is figuring out which ones to watch first!

“Rogue” (2007) - Austrailian Suspense/ Horror

Rogue Poster 1A movie about a gigantic killer crocodile stalking and eating tourists lost in the Australian outback….. Oooooohhh! That never gets old!

Would your Favorite Catgirl movie geek miss this one? Nope…. not a chance…. Will she wait for August to get her lil’ paws on the Region 1 release? Nope…. not when it’s already out in Australia on Region 4, you silly people!!

This one appears to be the big budget answer to last years lil’ sleeper hit “Black Water” which also deals with the very scary… and very real menace, to be experienced when dealing with the local wildlife of Australia’s Northern Territory.

Neko-chan picked up that one, and was scared silly by it, despite it’s low budget and small cast. Can Greg McLean, who made a splash among horror fans in 2005 with his ultra gory debut film, “Wolf Creek” pull off another hit with “Rogue”?

Let’s “Read On” and find out!!

“Punch Lady” (2007) - Korean Drama/ Comedy/ Martial Arts

Punch Lady PosterAfter watching the Thai film “Chocolate” last week, I got inspired to finally get around to this one that had been languishing unwatched in my pile of DVD’s from the last couple of months…… Neko-chan figured it was just the time for a little “Female Empowerment”…. asian style.

So… is director Kang Hyo-jin’s new film up to the level of her previous hit “My Wife is Gangster”, a film Neko absolutely loved? This one also is a story about a strong central female character, but where “My Wife is Gangster” has that main character fully in charge of her life and more than a match for all comers, this one tackles the thornier subject of spousal abuse and domestic violence.

Offering up the audience a story of an horribly abused wife who risks it all to gain her only chance for revenge by facing her violent husband in the boxing ring before an audience of thousands of fight fans in a winner takes all fight to the finish, “Punch Lady” is a hard film to categorize. It starts out as a Drama…. then goes soft and comedic, punctuated by moments of fear and melodrama before reaching it’s conclusion. If you are confused by now… you aren’t alone. Your Favorite Catgirl Princess had her moments trying to get a grip on this one too.

By now you really want to know what it’s all about, so let’s “Read On” shall we?

Neko’s Playing Dressup….

You might notice my Blog Theme shifting in the next day or so…. It’s not an illusion, nor have aliens hijacked this lil’ Catgirl’s brain…. I’m just trying out a few different looks to see which one suits me best.

If you see one ya like, then speak up!!
