Neko has another lil’ Thai film review for you. This time out, the creepy lil’ chiller, “The Spiritual World” aka “Winyan lok khon dtai”, on english subtitled DVD fresh from my latest Singapore mail order.
The synopsis reads: “Ming is a troubled young woman who has been able to see ghosts and contact to the dead ever since she was a little girl. It’s been 15 years since she managed to escape from a mysterious ghost that kept following her. One day she meets a young doctor named Buud, who visits her with a purpose. Buud knows that Ming can contact to the dead, so he wants her to find the reason behind the death of his father. While his father’s death was recorded by the police as being suicide, he believes it was murder. The appearance of Buud brings back memories of the past, and now Ming must face a truth that is even more terrible. For now she is being stalked by that same lost soul who is far more dangerous than any Ghost she has met so far.”
Ooooohhh!!! Sounds good! So naturally you are going to want to “Read On”, right? Hehehehe!!

Time to go way, waaay out with this classic old Chinese Horror/ Exploitation example of the weird films of HK’s heyday of horror, 1983’s “Devil Fetus”, just released on DVD as part of Joy Sales “Legendary Collection”.
Neko has herself an old copy of this one on VCD, but when I found out it was going to be remastered and released on DVD, I just had to grab this goofy one all over again…..
Remember…. this girl’s tastes in movies tends to be, shall we say “special”, and I’ve always had a soft spot for the truly baaaaaad and silly…
So…. is it worth your time as well? Let’s find out!

Sigh…… It’s another morning and I’m sitting all stiff and sore in front of the computer sipping a scalding hot mug of liquid caffeine trying to bring my poor self to life to face another day. It’s my day off, so I’m hoping to get a review… (or two) written up. If there’s any luck, I’ll have some new stuff ready for the next few days.
I’ve been able to squeeze in a couple of movies this last week, but work has been…. well…… just plain horrible to put it politely. I had an ugly shouting incident with a fellow worker over the weekend that reduced me to a hysterical shivering wreck just short of tears. I actually had to hide in the bathroom for 15 minutes while I calmed down enough to be able to function. I’m putting in just too many hours covering for other people and it’s starting to show…… Seems lately I’m always in a crappy mood and so gosh darn tired and sore that I’m lacking any interest in anything but sleep when I’m not at work….
The good news is that my breakdown seems to have convinced the restaurant that I need to get a week or so for a well needed vacation. It wont happen immediately, but until it does I’m going to scale back my hours to compensate. Thank god we finally hired a replacement for the cook that left us……
So…. with a suitable intake of coffee, your favorite Catgirl is gonna make an effort to see what she can get done. Keep your eyes peeled and we’ll see what happens.

Like OMG!!!
I know all the athletes feel safer already knowing the Elite Chinese Military Scooter Police have rolled these babies out for use during the Games!! They’ll paralyze terrorists with laughter!!
I can imagine them now tearing around HK’s next Jackie Chan “Police Story” film right now!! Hahahahaha!!!!

“D-Day” is another of the four Korean horror film projects of which “Hidden Floor” was a part, this one was available out of HK instead of Taiwan, and since I liked the first one, Neko picked it up hoping for a nice little thriller for an evenings experience. I mean, schoolgirls, ghosts, creepy teachers, and all that…. how can I go wrong?
The synopsis reads: “Roommates Yoo-jin, Eun-soo, Bo-ram, and Da-young are cramming for a college entrance exam. It`s difficult for them to adapt to the stifling atmosphere of the women`s lodging institute and to get along with each other due to their differing personalities. Yoo-jin has the most difficulty with the stuffy institute life- she begins to have visions of events that took place at the institute in the past like a tragic fire that occurred several years ago. Yoo-jin gradually becomes consumed with fear, and the relationship among the four intimate friends begins to suffer.”
Is it as well made as “Hidden Floor”? Well I guess you’ just have to read some more and find out…..

It’s baaaack!!! I know your favorite Catgirl promised this review a while ago, but right after I ordered the Malay disc, I managed to finally find a copy of the original Indonesian release. Since I figured it would be a better disc, I naturally had to grab it as well. Especially since even ordering both set me back about the combined cost of a cup of coffee….. (Ah…. gotta love those amazing Asian DVD prices….)
Anyway, this gives me the chance to watch and compare them, and give you the whole lowdown on what I was hoping would be as cool and offbeat a film as the original. I’ve been eagerly awaiting this one for months and impatiently scouring the net for it in a subtitled form.
The English-challenged synopsis for it reads: “Kuntilanak 2 is the sequel of the first movie starring Julie Estelle. The story continues. Samantha (Julie Estelle) is more and more involve in her dark side. Meanwhile Mangkoedjiwo sect wants to get her to become their sect leader. Sam is struggling try to escape from the dark side. Together with Agung she fights back to Mangkoedjiwo sect.”
Are we in for a treat? Will Sam surrender to the intoxicating power of “The Chant”? Or is this one going to be a major league letdown for your Favorite Catgirl Princess? Let’s “Read On” and find out!!

I guess my original goal of managing to do 3 posts a day is shot completely all to heck… but Neko didn’t want you to think she has gone AWOL and had forgotten the ol’ Litterbox completely. I visit the blogs of my other Delirium colleagues daily and I’m so in envy of their wonderful collective work. Sigh…..
I’ve some plans to move over some of my old reviews tomorrow from the DV archives, (if I’m lucky enough to actually get my day off for a change) and as I’ve started a couple of new reviews, I’ll put at least one up to give you all something new to read.
At least the mail continues to roll in bringing more DVD goodies…. “Long Dream” aka: “Nagai Yume” has arrived yesterday. Indonesia also came through with “Kesurupan” , “Angkerbatu” as well as “Beranak Dalam Kubur” by way of Malaysia with “Congkak” too. I should receive the Korean one, “GP506″ aka: “Guard Post 506″ along with “Devil Fetus” and the old Lam Ching Ying film “The Musical Vampire” today or tomorrow from HK. Singapore has sent me two english subtitled Thai goodies… “The Spiritual World” and “Cursed Hair”, but they wont be here for a week or so….
My Mailman is sooooo gonna hate this lil’ Catgirl….. Hehehehee!! (I’ll have to bake a plate of cookies for him…)

Anyway… if I ever actually get a few evenings free to watch them, I’m going to have quite the choice for reviews, so if any of these are appealing to you guys, drop a comment and let me know which ones to move to the top of the pile… Until then… “Meow, meow for now!”

Well, I know it’s been a few days without a posting, but I’ve been saddled with stuff at work…. again….. Our Kitchen Manager had to take a few days to travel for a family thing right after the 4th, and unfortunately we still are short another cook as she hasn’t recovered from her miscarriage yet.
Naturally that means yours truly is playing at wearing multiple hats this week as we try to manage the additional workload between the remaining crew. I’m getting soooo… sooooo… worn out and frazzled….but..
I’ve managed to watch “Kuntilanak 2″ as well as Mondo Macabro’s new release for “Queen of Black Magic”, and a new Korean one, “D-Day” so hopefully I’ll get something up soon……. just keep your fingers crossed! “Meow, meow, for now!!”

You know how truly wierd the films of Indonesia got waaay back in the late 70’s and early 80’s….. Well apparently the Philippine movies from that same period also had some seriously strange stuff going on too… as witnessed by this lil’ piece of cinematography. Neko found this one totally by accident, and when I found out it had black magic, crazy bad “special” effects, snake women, chubby ol’ satan himself, and a hero who looked like a Mexican heavy from an old episode of “CHIP’s” you just know I had to give it a try….
The synopsis for it reads: “The Killing of Satan” is a Filipino-made horror-fantasy movie about a man who is chosen by his dead uncle to battle the forces of evil. He fights a man called “The Prince of Magic,” who shoots ray beams from his hands, makes heads spin around and hypnotizes people. Eventually, he finally faces Satan himself and engages him in a battle of magic for the soul of his virgin daughter, the pledged Bride of Darkness.”
Yep…. it’s got it all…. but is is “Craptacular” enough to join the “So Bad It’s Good Club”? Let’s all find out…..

It’s the 4th of July and here in the US that means it’s Independence Day….. and outside of all the flag wavy stuff, it’s mostly a chance to have a day away from the drudgery and routine of working that full time job to make ends meet. Instead, we can all party ourselves silly…….. Yay!!
This lil’ Catgirl is spending her day at an employee picnic for our Restaurant, and I’m about to sneak into my kitchen to start whipping up my yummy contribution to the festivities. So no reviews today…. but I’m hoping to get back soon with “Kuntilanak 2″, the sequel to that nifty Indonesian horror film I absolutely loved this last year. After much prowling around the internet, I scored a copy from Malaysia with subtitles… Hooray!! Also coming up is going to be “The Killing of Satan”, a wacky mid 80’s Phillipino horror film that Neko discovered completely by accident…. and it’s a goofy hoot….
So until then….“Meow, meow for now!!”
