Nekoneko’s Movie Litterbox!!

Hehehehe!! Betcha THAT title got your attention!

Every now and then this lil’ Catgirl likes a film that tells the world that we girls can be sexy and, more importantly, still kick your ass if you don’t watch out. This has been a particularly good year for such movies, with the likes of “Chocolate”, “Machine Girl”, “Left For Dead”, “Punch Lady” and “Planet Terror” hitting DVD release. (And joining the pile of discs that teeter precariously next to my TV….)

But it looks like this year just might go out with a bang….a big BLOODY Bang. Coming this December might be the best of them all….“Bitch Slap”. Goodness!! That title alone is soooo “exploitative” that it just absolutely begs for a movie!!

How this one slipped under my radar, I’ll never know. I’m blaming the fact that it isn’t an asian film….. but I’m in the loop now.

The synopsis available reads: “Bitch Slap” follows three bad girls (a down-and-out stripper, a drug-running killer and a corporate powerbroker) as they arrive at a remote desert hideaway to extort massive booty from a ruthless underworld kingpin. Things quickly spin out of control as allegiances change, truths are revealed, other criminals arrive for the score, the fate of the world hangs in the balance and they are forced to confront a villain much worse than they ever expected… themselves. It’s the ultimate morality tale as, one by one, they realize the whole “she-bang” was a set-up and one of the film’s characters may not even be human…- moviesonline.ca

I’ve had this one simmering in the pile of new DVD’s for a while and a few evenings ago it finally found it’s way to the top. Well… all you regular readers know my love for baaaaad, baaaad cinema goodies, so how could I not give the Region 2 German release of “Zombie Strippers” a try? But, ….you say,… “Neko-chan…. there are no long haired ghosts in this one!!”

OK, OK….. I know… There are definitely times that people say to me… “Ummmm? Miyuki, how come you only ever watch all those trashy subtitled asian horror films?” So… for those people I’d like to use this review to prove that this lil’ Catgirl will also watch trashy english language movies too. Hehehehe!! So…. without further adieu, lets explore the absolute “craptaculousity” that is “Zombie Strippers”!!

It’s Sunday afternoon, and I’ve just finished up my shift at the restaurant for today. So here I am, in my smelly kitchen whites, drinking a badly needed wine cooler at the keyboard while I do the whole maintainance thing here at “The Litterbox”….. (Sigh.., If only it was “scoopable”…..)

Anyway…. I noticed how lax and empty things look on the ol’ calendar and suddenly realized it’s been like a week or more since I posted…… anything…. (Bad Kitty…Baaaaad!!!) I didn’t want people to think I fell in a hole or something, so I figured I better post SOMETHING today…..

In my defense… it has been really rough at work lately, but I made a goal a while back of wanting to keep things lively here, so I’m going to try to shake off my doldrums and see if I can’t get back on track starting tomorrow. Honest!! Catgirl’s honor!!

I figure I owe a review of two so we’ll see what happens.

Another Thai horror goodie for me!! Straight from Singapore, comes the low budget wonder that is…. “Cursed Hair”!!

The synopsis for it reads:“Cursed Hair” tells about the production of reality program in a mystery house that make all participants and crew member experience unexplainable frights. The ex-owner was a lady who has weird crave for hairs. As day gone by her craving worsen and move on to flesh on the scalp. Her intolerable husband decided to kill her and follow by commit suicide. However, her soul still at here, After realizing the truth, everyone want to get out of this house but how many can come out alive. THE FEAR OF CURSED HAIR IS STOPPING YOUR LAST BREATH ..”

It’s Saturday here at the ol’ Litterbox, and your favorite Catgirl is going through the motions of her normal morning routine. It’s all about puttering about in my PJ’s and fuzzy slippers with coffee mug in hand, fending off Goober’s attempts to rub all his loose fur off on my ankles, while rubbing the sleep from my eyes and trying to come up with a coherent plan for today.

I know I’m falling behind on new posts…. but it seems the drama at work refuses to end. The new cook we hired just plain stopped showing up early this week… I’m assuming that means he’s done working.. (although if I lived a more exciting life, it could mean alien abduction, governmental kidnapping by the “Men in Black”, or possession by the evil thousand year old spirit of an antique Chinese urn…) Naturally they had to give some of his shifts to me….. as if I’m not already tired and cranky enough. Plus we lost a waitress as well… but I’ve flat out told them I’m NOT doing any of those shifts too. Lately my mood has not been good enough for me to put up with the hassles of smiling for customers that I might not even want to deal with otherwise. Apparently that vacation I was planning is on hold…. again. GRRRR!!

Still….. I’m off for the complete weekend, so I’m going to try and do at least one more nice review, as well as work on my “Best of 2008″ posting over at Delirium Vault. That and do some posts over at Snowblood Apple, since I finally decided to get off my lazy butt and register for that forum. I’ve been lurking there for a while, and with everybody at DV saying I ought to get more active socially around the Web it seemed like an idea who’s time had come.

Anyways… that’s what up for me. Here’s hoping the next week holds more promise.

Well, I finally managed to grab a copy of “Kuntilanak 3″ so I could wrap up this series. It came to DVD much quicker than I expected, and I lucked out snagging the Indonesian disc for it as well. This one is supposed to be the finale to the story, but one never knows….

After the major disappointment of the second film, this lil’ Catgirl has been fretting that this one would end up being just a big letdown, never explaining anything, leaving all sorts of loose plot elements to dangle in the breeze like forgotten laundry on a clothesline. But….. I really, really, really liked the first one, so I just had to give it a chance.

Will it save the Trilogy? Does Samantha finally lose “The Chant”? Will any of this make any sense by the end? Well…… don’t just sit there, “Read On”!!

Ooooh! Ooooh! My mailman dropped off my latest big ol’ pile of overseas packages, and within was “Kuntilanak 3″ direct from Indonesia…. Yay!!! After the let down of the last film in the series, I’m hoping they make it up to this girl big time….. I should get the chance to curl up and watch it tonight so expect my review tomorrow!

Also… in from Singapore, the Malaysian/ HK co-production “Possessed”. This is the one directed by Bjarne Wong featuring Malaysian supermodel Amber Chia and that Korean transsexual model Harisu…. I saw the Trailer and it actually doesn’t look too bad. Guess I’ll find out! Till then, “Meow, meow for now!”

Hahahaha!!! Every once in a while, this lil’ Catgirl does research on some of the elements of an asian film, and while I often find what I need for a review, I also learn some of the goofiest things…..

Here for example is a folklore monster from Japan that just begs for his own movie….. Shirime (尻目 (しりめ) aka “Anus Eye”. I kid you not…. he’s a “real” monster from old Japanese folklore.

The story on him, as quoted from www.obakemono.com, goes as follows:“Long ago, a samurai was walking at night down the road to Kyōto, when he heard someone calling out for him to wait. “Who’s there?!” he asked nervously, only to turn around and find a man stripping off his clothes and pointing his bare buttocks at the flabbergasted traveler. As if this weren’t traumatizing enough, a huge glittering eye then opened up where the strange man’s anus should have been.

The samurai ran away screaming, and this obscene apparition was never seen again.

The haiku poet and artist Buson liked this naughty creature enough to include it among his many paintings of yōkai.”

Yep…. this guy just screams for his own movie where he chases Japanese schoolgirls around….. or maybe the Pang Brothers could use him for the next “The Eye” sequel……

We have for you today a review of “Congkak”, an honest to goodness Malaysian horror film… Neko hasn’t seen one of these since “Chermin”, and that was waaaay last year. The Malaysians don’t seem to release very many of these, seeming content to watch the avalanche of Indonesian horror that gets imported there. At least Neko doesn’t find too many of them…..(and I look really, really hard!)

The synopsis for it reads:“Kazman is a dedicated husband who, despite his wife Sufiah’s protests, decided to buy a bungalow for their family near a lake as a family getaway. Anxious in the new house, Sufiah feels as if someone is watching her. Her daughter Lisa, who would always go downstairs at night to play congkak with someone whom she could only see, compounds her uneasiness. Sufiah throws the congkak in the lake, but is awakened the next night by the sound of the congkak being played again and upon investigation, she sees an old lady playing it. When her daughter disappears, the oldest resident in that area, Pak Man, comes to the family’s rescue and helps in locating the missing family members.”

Haunted house… check. Weird goings on and cute kids in danger… check. Evil spirit possessed game… check. Loving wife ignored by her idiot husband until it’s too late… check. Sounds like it’s all here. But does it all work? Let’s find out…….
