This time out, it’s the Philippine horror fest “Mag-Ingat Ka Sa…. Kulam” aka “Beware of…. Witchcraft!” It’s another of those creepy Asian ghost stories….. and you all know just how much Neko loves her ghost stories!!
The synopsis for it reads as follows: “Mag-Ingat Ka Sa… Kulam” concerns Mira (Judy Ann Santos), a recent survivor of a car accident that has partly affected her memory, and her grip on reality as well. Mira tries to regain bits and pieces of her life with her husband Paul (Dennis Trillo) and blind daughter Sophie (Sharlene San Pedro). Meanwhile, Dave (TJ Trinidad), Mira’s business associate with whom she has an illicit affair, convinces Mira to leave her husband, as what she has planned to do before the car accident. But what drives Mira to further confusion are the strange things that start to occur in her home. As a malevolent presence threatens to destroy her marriage to Paul and her relationship with Sophie, Mira is forced to confront her past and discover her true history.”
Creepy, eh? Well let’s not just stand around here, let’s “Read On” shall we?

You know how truly wierd the films of Indonesia got waaay back in the late 70’s and early 80’s….. Well apparently the Philippine movies from that same period also had some seriously strange stuff going on too… as witnessed by this lil’ piece of cinematography. Neko found this one totally by accident, and when I found out it had black magic, crazy bad “special” effects, snake women, chubby ol’ satan himself, and a hero who looked like a Mexican heavy from an old episode of “CHIP’s” you just know I had to give it a try….
The synopsis for it reads: “The Killing of Satan” is a Filipino-made horror-fantasy movie about a man who is chosen by his dead uncle to battle the forces of evil. He fights a man called “The Prince of Magic,” who shoots ray beams from his hands, makes heads spin around and hypnotizes people. Eventually, he finally faces Satan himself and engages him in a battle of magic for the soul of his virgin daughter, the pledged Bride of Darkness.”
Yep…. it’s got it all…. but is is “Craptacular” enough to join the “So Bad It’s Good Club”? Let’s all find out…..

We go to the Philippines for our next Halloween month horror goodie… the new pinoy film “Tiyanaks”.
The synopsis reads: “Something beyond comprehension is happening to Sheila (Rica Peralejo). The signs are clear: evil has returned… older, stronger and there is nowhere to hide. Many believe that when a baby dies without baptism, it leads to the possession of evil. Sheila, Rina (Jennylyn Mercado), Christian (Mark Herras) and Kerwin (JC De Vera) along with their friends do not believe in such stories. Against the advice of a concerned mythology professor, they decided to take an out of town trip during the holy week. They have other things in mind.
Christian wants to start courting Rina, Kerwin wants to beat Christian to it, Hanz wants to spend time with his boyfriend and Rex simply wants to have fun. In the beginning, it would seem like they made the right choice. Then certain events, all seeming to revolve around the dreams and premonitions of Sheila about young evil lurking in the area, are deeply disturbing: disappearance, mysterious children, a strange old woman… The troubling incidents multiply, pointing to something wrong – terribly wrong – and it seems they have no way out. Then tragedy strikes closer when one of them turns out to be evil himself. Now, they realize that some of them must make the ultimate sacrifice to prevent the unspeakable terror that awaits them all. Some of them have to die for some to live.”
Want to know more? Then by all means, “Read On” !!
